Flight delayed: what it means for your parking
What to arrange when you get back later than booked, who to contact and what the cost depends on.
A parking booking has a start and an end: the moment you drop off your car and the moment you pick it up. If your trip overruns, that second moment is no longer right. What you do depends on which flight is delayed.
Your outbound flight is delayed
If your car is already parked, nothing changes for your booking as long as you return as planned. You leave later, but your car stays where it is.
If you already know before leaving home that you will reach the car park at a different time from the one you entered, pass that on. Different times go through ParkingKong’s customer service.
Your return flight is delayed
Then you pick up your car later than booked. Contact our customer service as soon as possible and include your booking number. You will find that number in your confirmation email.
Do not wait until you have landed. The sooner it is known that you will be late, the easier it is to allow for it. With valet your car is brought round for your return time, and with shuttle parking a bus has to run for you.
What a later return costs
That depends on the provider’s terms. The provider runs the car park and sets the price; ParkingKong acts as intermediary. So there is no single rule that holds for every car park. When you get in touch, ask straight away what the overrun means for your booking, especially if you return a day later.
Your flight is cancelled or rebooked
If you return a day or more later, or your trip does not go ahead at all, it becomes a matter of changing or cancelling your booking. Whether a change is possible, and what it costs, depends on the provider’s terms. For cancelling, the provider’s cancellation terms apply; you saw them before you booked.
Contact customer service in that case too, and include your booking number.
Have this to hand
- Your booking number from the confirmation email.
- Your number plate.
- The new time you expect to pick up your car.
Beforehand: give yourself some room
Your landing time is not the moment you are standing at your car. In between come getting off the plane, collecting your luggage and, with shuttle parking, the ride back. Keep that in mind when you enter your return time while booking. A time with some slack is better than one that only works if you land exactly on schedule.
Read the provider’s terms before you book as well. Then you know where you stand if things go differently. More points to go through beforehand are in What to check before you book airport parking.
